Kitchen Terminology - Jargon Buster

adj - Adjustable: Abbreviation indicating that the specified item is adjustable.

AL – Aluminium: Abbreviation indicating Aluminium Framed or Fronted Units.

Carcass matching: Any items matching this description will match the colour and material of your chosen kitchen carcass / unit.

Colour co-ordinated: All our kitchen doors and cabinets are colour co-ordinated together, this means that we've made every effort to ensure that each of our doors, colour matches each of the applicable units. We do not guarantee an exact colour match as this is often impossible to achieve however, each of our ranges does in fact very closely match the units.

DL – Drawer Line Base: Door and Drawer making up your fascia. Sometimes offered as ‘Fixed’, meaning a 'fixed in place' drawer front without drawer box.

Door matching: Any items matching this description will match the colour and material of your chosen kitchen door.

Double Base / Wall: A Base or Wall unit, 700mm wide or larger. Typically with two (Double) doors.

Dry - Dry Assembled: Some of our Corner units are very large and will not fit through most doorways. We make these units available either Dry Assembled (cam and dowelled joints, not glued) or Flat Pack.

Fixed Drawer – See DL

FH – Full Height Base: This means your Door is the full height of the unit, no drawer is included with Full Height bases.

Flat - Flat Pack: Some of our Corner Base units are very large and will not fit through most doorways. We make these units available either Dry Assembled (cam and dowelled joints, not glued) or Flat Pack.

Fully Assembled Units: - Fully Assembled Units comprise our rigid units with doors hung and drawers fitted. If you've ordered units with internal wire work, drawers, carousels or pullouts, these will also be factory fitted.

LH / LHB - Left Hand / Left Hand Blanked: LH means the units are hinged on the left side (as you look at the front of the unit). LHB refers to Blanked Corner Bases / Walls and means that the Blanking Panel is on the left side (as you look at the front of the unit). Some side panels can also be 'handed'; ensure you order the correct end.

MFC - Melamine Faced Chipboard: This is the material which our units and MFC accessories are made from. MFC accessories are available in carcass colours only. For door-matching accessory colours choose the Vinyl, Painted or Veneer accessory options.

RH / RHB - Right Hand / Right Hand Blanked: RH means the units are hinged on the right side (as you look at the front of the unit). RHB refers to Blanked Corner Bases / Walls and means that the Blanking Panel is on the right side (as you look at the front of the unit). Some side panels can also be 'handed'; ensure you order the correct end.

Rigid Units:: Rigid units are a fully constructed unit, using glue and dowelled joints, which has been squared under pressure. As opposed to an Assembled Unit, which is typically a flat-pack carcass constructed using cams and dowels, and wouldn't be squared.

Single Base / Wall: A Base or Wall unit, 600mm wide or smaller. Typically with one (Single) door.

Size: This simply means the width of the unit, usually in millimetres.

T&G / TG – Tongue and Groove: Abbreviation specifying a Tongue and Groove plank effect.
